Greetings to all Nebraska Hickory Golfers. I am so proud of our Nebraska Hickory Golf Society and Board Members on completing a very successful first Season. We had 28 golfers join our NEHGA. We featured 4 local and state events.

Our first event was held in conjunction with  National Hickory Golf Day and the 100thAnniversary of Elmwood Park. Thirty five players participated in a TWO MAN SCRAMBLE on a cold and wet day in early May. The winners were John Nix and Tracy Mann carding a very respectable 64. The Tournament director was Mike Tiehen.

The First State Championship was held in the famous Sand Hills of central Nebraska. The two day tournament at Dismal River witnessed a very competitive field of players. Dave Brown captured the first State Championship sinking a 35 foot birdie putt on the final hole to beat Randy Jensen by 1 stroke. Dale Hallock was the Tournament Director.

The Fellowship of Happy Hollow Hickory Golfers successfully defended its’ Interclub title beating the Hickory Crew from the Champions.

The highlight of the Hickory season was the Johnny Goodman River City Hickory Championship and Hall of Fame Banquet. The tournament was held at Happy Hollow Country Club with players competing from Kansas, Iowa, Nebraska and Washington State. Kevin Cawley defended his title shooting a HHCC Hickory course record 72. This was followed by the Hall of Fame dinner where three outstanding Nebraska stand outs were honored…A H Findlay, Johnny Goodman and Randy Jensen.

Changes have been made for the 2017 Season(http://www.nehga.com). Greg Dress will once again open the season in April with the LGS hickory tournament at a local public course to be determined. The National Hickory Day event will again be held at Elmwood May 7th. This will be a 2 man scramble. We encourage all players to bring someone new to hickory golf for this event. Mike Tiehen Tournament Director.

The State Championship will be back in the sand hills at the Prairie Club July 27 28 29th. Doug Ruge is the Tournament Director.

Your membership is used for prizes and to reduce the cost of the events. I encourage all Hickory golf enthusiast’s to join…together we are stronger!

It has been a pleasure serving as President of our embryonic Society, but I could not have done this without the talented members of our Board…Thank you!

Have a great Holiday Season and I look forward to seeing more of you next year as we start the second season of the Nebraska Hickory Golf Association.
